1. Create Your Free Google Business Profile
If you have a physical store, I strongly recommend that you create a Google Business Profile. It’s free and it’ll help you get discovered by customers near you.
This way, people can easily find you on Google Search and get directions to your store on Google Maps. You can also easily add your website, phone number, operating hours and photos as well as menu if you own a food and drink business. There are many analytics and insights too, such as the keywords that people search to find you.
People can then post reviews of your brand and you can choose whether to respond to these reviews. I love Google reviews because many people use Google Maps to get directions and you can easily write a review with your Google profile. Personally, I also like to read reviews before choosing whether to go to a restaurant or sign up for art workshops. I think this is great, especially for local businesses.

2. Be Direct: Ask For Reviews
One of the effective ways to get reviews is to be direct. Directly ask your customers for reviews.
You could send an email or post on social media and point your customers to the various review platforms. Or you could point to the specific product or service page on your website so they can rate and review. This will help potential buyers make more informed choices.
I recommend that you create a post-purchase email automation workflow that sends an email asking for reviews. Remember to personalize it so you address your recipient by name and highlight the product or service they purchased.
Make it easy for your customers to write reviews. So provide direct, clickable links to the review platforms or your specific webpages. In my case, I would point readers to Amazon, Kobo, Apple, Goodreads, BookBub etc. Remember to include the “why” by briefly telling customers why their feedback is important, such as how it helps you improve your products and services or how it helps people make informed decisions.
3. Offer Small Incentive
Consider giving an incentive to encourage people to leave reviews. This small thank you could be a discount or loyalty points. From my personal experience, I’ve seen restaurants providing complimentary snacks or desserts in exchange for a review.
However, do be mindful of the review platforms’ guidelines. Every review platform has their own policies. For example, some platforms are strict and will take down reviews if they see that the reviewer is connected with the brand owner.
So just be careful when offering incentives and ensure that you don’t violate the guidelines of the review platforms.
