Leadership

If your target audience are leaders or you’re selling products and services related to leadership, here are some power words you can consider:

  • Lead
  • Spearhead
  • Trailblazer
  • Pioneer
  • Champion

The key characteristics of these words are confidence and authority. They should give a feeling of being in charge and wield an air of competence under pressure. Since you’re speaking to leaders, you should try to use their language and tone in your copy. Avoid words that are uncertain and hesitant.

There are times when you need power words about increasing size or pushing your audience to take a desired action.

Bonus Tip: Power Words Can Be Both Positive & Negative

You might have noticed that most of the power words are positive. However, do note that you can use negative power words too.

Just like the abovementioned “risk” and “obsolete”, there are many other negative power words too like

  • Crushing: Say Goodbye To Your Soul-Crushing Job
  • Struggle: Struggling to balance your commitments?
  • Broken: How To Fix Broken Brand Promises
  • Ruin: 3 Mistakes That Ruin Your Image
  • Draining: Money-Draining Habits To Avoid

Negative power words are great for magnifying problems and showing that you as a brand understand your audience.

Bonus Tip: Tailor To Your Target Audience

Always keep your target audience in mind when copywriting. Use words, jargon, language and tone that reflect your target audience. Speak their language.

Remember, you should be talking to your audience, not talking at them.

As mentioned earlier, if your target audience is leaders, you should use confident language. If your audience is industry experts, it’s okay to include jargon and insider lingo to show that you’re part of them (and perhaps, build the bond between you two).
