Pros & Cons Of 5 Offices For Entrepreneurs

As an entrepreneur, where you work is an important factor that influences your productivity.

Today, I’ll share about the pros and cons of various offices that entrepreneurs can work at.

1. Home Office

Home office is one of the most obvious places to work at as a business owner. You don’t have to spend much time researching or commuting. Working at home will probably be the most comfortable too.

But bear in mind that precisely because you work from home, you might constantly work without a break, especially because work is within reach. There’s no clear separation because your home (a space for rest) becomes a workspace.

When you’re just starting out, I strongly recommend that you work from home. This way, you can save your capital for more important things like your products and services or marketing.

2. Library

Library is another place you could work at.

Do check how much the membership fee is. For example, the local libraries in my country offer free membership to citizens. Also, research on the amenities, such as photocopying and scanning services and how much they cost.

Another issue to consider is reserving a seat in the library. Depending on how crowded the library is, you might need to book a seat in advance.

3. Café

Café is another popular place to work at. Many students and professionals order a beverage and study or work at the café for a few hours. This is a nice break from the monotony of an office and can potentially boost your creativity and productivity.

You have more control and flexibility where you can choose a café that suits your preferences.

It’s not as quiet as a library but a café has white noise which can enhance focus and concentration. Of course, you can bring noise-canceling headphones. This depends on whether you’re more productive working in silence or with white noise. If you’re unsure, you can experiment and see what works best for you.

When the café is busy, there’s no guarantee of a seat. You might have to take any available seat, rather than your preferred seat by the window for example.

4. Coworking Space

If you want to meet like-minded professionals, you can consider working at a coworking space. This will allow you to network with other entrepreneurs and startup founders. In addition to forging meaningful connections, you can get their firsthand advice and insights on building a business as well as foster opportunities for collaboration.

Coworking spaces typically provide amenities like printers, scanners and conference rooms so you can focus on work that matters. Working here also fosters a sense of community and collaboration. But there are less customization and control over the workspace.

5. Your Own Office

Every entrepreneur dreams to scale their business such that we could work at our own office. This is no easy feat and might even take years to accomplish. But owning an office results in numerous benefits.

One benefit of having your own office is that it will make your company more credible. Your office could also be a pull factor in attracting talent. Interacting with each other in the office will build stronger bonds among the employees. There’s also a sense of belonging when reporting to work every day. Precisely because this is your office space, you can personalize it such that it reflects your brand and thus, foster a sense of ownership and improve morale.
